Guest Poet: Sandra Davies

Circle of Celebration

© Sandra Davies 2011

Sandra Davies is an artist and printmaker and recently-emerged writer of fiction, with a long-established interest in family history. Born on the Essex coast, she now lives in Teesside in the north east of England, both places having the flat landscapes and sea-edged horizons considered essential for a sense of well-being. More writing can be found at lines of communication and some prints at Print Universe
This piece can be found in Sandra's excellent book Edge which comprises Curve of Early Learning, Arc of Adaptation, and Circle of Celebration

  1. I have watched Sandra's amazing output over the past year with admiration and pleasure, albeit with a touch of envy. Okay, more than a touch. She is prodigious, talented and versatile. Her art is sensuous; her writing ranges from poetry to prose to social satire. She posts on T-10, 6S, here, and several other sites. I do not know whether her neighbors in quiet Teeside know what an engine of industry lives in their midst. She pours it out, y'all, week after week. I love this collection and am wowed by the fullness of her vision. I raise a glass (clinking sound) of Jameson's to her.

  2. Love the artwork (and the words!) Do you have a coffee table version with your art- Blurb offers that formating size?

  6. While I've been long impressed with your writing on 6S, I had little idea you were such an accomplished visual artist. These pieces are professional and inspiring. The writing here is also a new look for you, mythic and personal at once. It's a hard thing, sometimes, to make history resonant, but you've done so here.

Sandra, you have created a masterpiece of combined writing and art. As I got into the rhythm of the piece, I had the feeling of hearing a soft drumbeat in the background.

  8. Thank you all for your appreciative comments which truly warm my heart. But I have to say that having MuDJoB available as a place to direct certain sorts of writing to is what has lead to this and the earlier 'Curve of learning' which I posted in January, and I was more than delighted to comply with Michael's request for 'something special' to celebrate MuDJoB's anniversary.
